Job Summary

The Piscataway Office of AECOM is seeking an enthusiastic and outgoing Entry-Level Traffic/ITS Engineer for immediate employment. Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings using CAD programs.

  • Work on a wide range of projects and tasks and assist with field investigation, data collection, data analysis, graphics, maps and data presentation, and report development.

  • Assist in design of roadway, traffic signals, highway lighting and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects.

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

  • Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.

  • Work as part of a team and also independently in learning, evaluating, and applying Traffic Engineering principles, standards, and criteria.

  • Learn and utilize various modeling tools for traffic analysis (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM) for a variety of conditions and needs at specific intersections, along arterial corridors, and for freeway segments.

  • Assist in preparing technical reports and papers for clients and/or internal distribution.

  • Assist in performing various Traffic Engineering studies.

  • Adhere to project schedules and budgets.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering

  • Applicable course work in Transportation / Traffic Engineering and/or ITS.

  • Good Communication Skills.

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software.

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as of Land Desktop/AutoCAD, InRoads, and MicroStation)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred

  • Possession of a valid driver's license
