Job Description :

The position is at a senior level within the department providing a single point of responsibility for the London machinery team responsible for:

· Leadership of the technical team of machinery engineers

· Development of work methods, procedures and standards

· Technical integrity across projects

· Training, mentoring and coaching of machinery team members

· Technical design and package management on projects

While typically assigned to project work as a technical consultant the successful candidate will also be responsible for technical oversight, integrity and alignment of the wider machinery team while reporting to the Mechanical department manager. The role also involves extensive interface with clients, project management, suppliers, and corporate management.

Under broad direction, the candidate will function as a technical specialist who makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have a far reaching impact on extensive engineering and related activities of the project. They will negotiate critical and controversial issues with top-level engineers and officers of other organizations and companies.

The minimum qualification requirements for this position are a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a full professional qualification as a Chartered Engineer (full member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers or a recognized equivalent).

The required competency and skills would typically have been built up working for a consultant engineering company, equipment fabricator, machinery manufacturer or end user company. Personnel would be expected to have a varied and extensive experience of mechanical equipment applications in the onshore and offshore oil and gas project environment to include concept, front end engineering design, detailed design, commissioning and operations.

The candidate should have experience of the design, specification, selection, and services relating to rotating machinery including gas turbines, compressors, and pumps. A specialist and detailed knowledge of the major machinery types, to include large frame centrifugal, axial and reciprocating compressors, pumps, and gas turbines will be required. A good working knowledge of machinery rotor-dynamics, machinery performance calculations, lubrication, shaft sealing, and machinery selection criteria is essential. Field experience in the manufacturing, performance testing, commissioning, and trouble-shooting of machinery systems is strongly desired. Experience and understanding of the major rotating machinery used in LNG and refinery projects would also be beneficial.

Job success will depend on interpersonal skills and the effective interaction with others. Selected personnel will be highly competent in written and spoken communication and be able to use a range of standard software such as MS Word and MS Excel to prepare technical documents and to write technical reports.
