Market Sector Manager - Defence (Central West)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate leader to manage our Defence Market Sector across the Central West region of Australia. This key role will be responsible for establishing the market sector strategy, developing and maintaining local/national customer relationships as well as positioning and securing new work.

Our preferred location is Adelaide but we are flexible with this and open to consider candidates located in Perth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the liaison and strategy development with KBR’s Government Services (GS) business unit on behalf of the Engineering
  • Achievement of sales, revenue, backlog, job income and operating income for the region
  • Define and promote KBR’s positioning, brand and image in the market place
  • Prepare, update and report against the local business plan and strategic initiatives
  • Create and lead the implementation of new business initiatives and support the evolution, further development and implementation of the Director’s national business strategy
  • Effectively manage the performance and pastoral care of Industry Leads, Project Directors and Project Managers who will report in to you
  • Lead the recruitment of new positions necessary to improve the chances of winning new pipelines of work or effectively deliver on new and on-going projects
  • Undertake early-game positioning and complete pre-tender action plans so as to improve the company’s probability of success prior to the tender brief arriving (via points of differences and value-adds)
  • Monitor and manage business development and proposal budgets

Qualification & Experience


  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team
  • Experience developing strategy and implementing initiatives for growth
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in delivering in the infrastructure/construction sector, with a particular focus on Defence and Buildings experience
  • Previous accountability for project / business / department financial performance (profit and loss).
  • Strong contacts within the Defence Estate & Infrastructure (Capital Facilities and Infrastructure) Group, federal government, local government and the related Buildings / Defence industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with a Defence Design Services Contract, Managing Contractor Contract, and/or delivering PMCA services for Defence.
  • Eligibility for Defence security clearance.
  • Strong practical knowledge of and commitment to health and safety


  • Post graduate qualifications or recognition in business or project management
  • Knowledge and experience working with Australian Standards and the BCA
  • CPPD/CCPM, CPEng, RPEQ, CEng (UK) or similar post-graduate competency
  • Demonstrated experience with leading and delivering Defence bids
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills – demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
