Job Summary

AECOM's Transportation Architecture department in is hiring a Senior Architect with a strong transportation architecture background to lead significant transportation projects in rail and aviation sectors.

Key responsibilities will include working with, and coordinating, an architectural/engineering team in preparing documents for projects focused on transportation. The ideal candidate will perform detailed phases of architectural design work for projects requiring interface and collaboration with various disciplines, clients, and consultants. Other tasks include:

  • Preparing Architectural plans, and/or supervising their execution.

  • Performing analysis of design and construction systems, planning studies, design layouts and construction details.

  • Overseeing research used in writing specifications, including coordinating with manufacturers.

  • Conducting site and construction inspections for information-gathering purposes, preparing interpretive reports.

  • Executing code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions.

  • Analyzing design and construction systems, design layouts and construction features, which require researching, compiling and recording information for assigned project work.

  • Coordinating with other disciplines.

  • Planning, scheduling, coordinating, managing and overseeing the work of lower-level architects who assist with particular projects.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage client, team and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, civil consultants etc.

  • Manage architecture discipline staffing, schedule and costs associated

  • Lead communication between project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials

  • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex technical and design challenges

  • Conduct and document site visits, process submittals, substitution requests, and RFI’s during construction

  • Determine collectively with multiple design disciplines, the technical approach and design criteria for projects.

  • Participate in responding to RFPs and preparing the technical proposals

  • Lead and coach junior architectural staff

  • Perform independent investigations, studies, and architectural analysis.

  • Develop design details, plans and specifications.

  • Serve as quality control reviewer.

  • Remain current in codes and technologies appropriate to the architecture discipline including IBC, NFPA, etc.

  • Ensure conformance with standards, established architectural practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional Degree in Architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch preferred) and 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education

  • Registered Licensed Architect in the State of New York or NJ

  • Proficiency coordinating Revit, MicroStation or AutoCAD projects

  • Microsoft Office Suite skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Architecture preferred

  • Experience in the transportation sector is preferred
