Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking an experienced

Mechanical/Electrical Engineer in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will perform the electrical and communication support duties as a Cognizant System Engineer for the WIPP mine hoist systems. Able to perform engineering calculations and analysis within the scope of engineering discipline and provide rigorous written documentation supporting design decisions. Functions to be performed include hoisting system upgrade design, system maintenance and troubleshooting (including on-call) support, technical procurement support, project coordination and support, and configuration control and management. Provide technical field leadership support to solve equipment malfunctions. Maintain system configuration documentation including but not limited to system drawings, design specifications, trending analysis, and system health indicators including performance of an annual system health walk down report. Track and perform assignments, develop project schedules, cost estimates, and statement of work for projects as needed.

NWP Exempt Salary Grade (31-34)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline plus five (5) years of relevant experience, or

  • Associate's Degree in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline plus nine (9) years of relevant experience is required.

  • Electrical Engineer disciplines, relevant experience in control design related to process controls for speed and position regulation, industrial form D four quadrant AC to DC thyristor power converters, MG sets, and large DC motors is required.

  • Mechanical Engineer disciplines, relevant experience in design, operation, and maintenance of heavy mechanical systems directly related to underground mine operations, such as hoists and fans is required.

  • To be qualified as a Cognizant System Engineer without a Bachelor of Science degree, related experience may substitute for education at a rate of six semester credit hours for each year of experience up to a maximum of 60 credit hours. When combined with experience, completion of technical portions of an engineering, engineering technology, or related science program may substitute for the baccalaureate or associate degree. Successful completion must be determined by a transcript or certification by an accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the US Department of Education. Completion of 80 semester credit hours may be substituted for the baccalaureate requirement, and 43 semester credit hours for the associate degree in technical subjects related to the position.

  • ?Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PLC programming experience is desirable.

  • Experience with mine hoist drive and control systems is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to become familiar with hoisting control systems that utilize analog control signals for both 6 and 12 pulse high powered converters is a plus.

  • Ability to become familiar with the function of high/medium voltage harmonic filters, and other control aspects of DC motor driven hoist equipment is a plus.

  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
