Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Water Resources Engineer - Design for our Arlington, Virginia office. In this role, the successful candidate will perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer, gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures, work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests, propose approach to solve new problems encountered, identify discrepancies in results, provide guidance to entry level engineers, and perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

The successful candidate will provide water resource related engineering analysis and design, as well as assistance in the data collection and analysis, field programs and report writing. Activities will include hydrologic/hydraulic, hydrodynamic and water quality modeling, design, assessment, and evaluation; environment water quality related permit submittal; and field sampling and field investigation. GIS and CADD skills, knowledge of water quantity and quality modeling, and design experiences are desirable. The ideal candidate will work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential, along with the desire to learn.

  • Performs field work including investigations and sampling.

  • Builds analytic and design skills.

  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field

  • 2 years of related experience

  • Ability to obtain FE/EIT within 1 year

  • US Citizen able to work on federal facilities

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-5 years related experience

  • Experience preparing technical reports and memos. Must be a competent technical writer.

  • Attention to detail in work; high quality and accuracy in work performed

  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and technical report writing

  • FE/EIT

  • Ability to obtain PE within 2 years

  • Experience using ArcGIS and AutoCAD

  • Experience with hydrology and hydraulics programs such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and other modeling software

  • Ability to observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.
