Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a full-time senior bridge engineer for complex bridge design and engineering. Areas of transportation structure experience include: post-tensioned segmental concrete bridge design, creep and shrinkage behavior of concrete, preservation of complex structures, geometric and material nonlinear analysis, second order effects, and evaluation of detailed construction sequences. A qualified candidate should also have familiarity with Microsoft Office, Mathcad, Bentley Microstation, Midas Civil, and structural analysis software packages.

The AECOM North Carolina structures team works on a wide variety of structural engineering projects, and the successful candidate may perform all or some of the following responsibilities as a senior bridge engineer or project manager:

Design and construction phase services of post-tensioned segmental balanced-cantilever bridges

Load rating of existing post-tensioned segmental bridges

Construction phase services of complex steel structures

Instrumentation, load testing, and imaging of complex structures

National complex structure projects

Feasibility studies, evaluations, and reports

Minimum Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in post-tensioned segmental concrete bridge modeling, design, and construction

  • 10 years of total experience in complex bridge design

  • Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and Manual for Bridge Evaluation

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • MS in Structural Engineering

  • PE license in North Carolina or ability to obtain within six months

  • Ability to execute quality control procedures for structure design plans and calculations

  • Ability to work with multi-disciplined teams and communicate with engineers from other disciplines

  • Willingness to mentor younger staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in structural engineering

  • Project management experience

  • Experience with the instrumentation, load testing, and/or monitoring of complex structures

  • Experience with imaging of structures

  • Experience with complex steel structures, including fatigue and fracture considerations

  • Strong communication and marketing skills
