Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:  This is considered an advanced level engineering position. Responsibilities may include conceptual thinking, designing and developing plans, processes, procedures, functional and data requirements analysis, complex system analysis, documentation preparation for complex systems, and operational support of these systems, and managing and tracking health and integrity of launch service provider communication & telemetry networks. May be required to supervise less experienced engineers. Requires expertise in the field of work specified. Engineering disciplines that may map into this Standardized Labor Classification  include mechanical, electrical, aerospace, propulsion, industrial, chemical, materials, computer, telecommunications, communications, environmental, structures, thermal, safety, reliability, software, systems and quality. 
Individual must possess thorough working knowledge of space launch systems and processes.  Individuals in this role must have a thorough understanding of launch vehicle processes and practices, launch site preparations flow and day-of-launch procedures. Also, the individual must have a thorough understanding of the NSSL vehicle launch interface requirements, launch transportation and processing requirements. 

Could perform Systems Engineering activities related to Information Technology or Engineering including: concept of operations formulation, requirements definition, analysis and engineering, system architecting, system analysis and design, interface and data architectures, validation and verification, systems integration, system & op. performance analysis,  Lifecycle cost analysis & estimation, decision analysis and physical configuration analysis (PCA) . Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software or engineering specifications. Provides specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. From an information technology perspective, may be concerned with floor layout, power & cooling, data storage, infrastructure management, backup, monitoring, operating systems, directory services, identity management, access management, and automation. 

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: NSSL experience is 2 years with a desire of 5 years. Bachelors degree in a STEM area and fourteen (14) years or more experience with five (5) years in the National Space Security Launch area; Masters degree in a STEM area and twelve (12) years or more experience with five (5) years in the National Space Security Launch area; PhD or JD in a STEM area and nine (9) years or more experience with five (5) years in the National Space Security Launch area.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in a STEM area and fourteen (14) years or more experience with ten (10) years in the National Space Security Launch area; Masters degree in a STEM area and twelve (12) years or more experience with ten (10) years in the National Space Security Launch area; PhD or JD in a STEM area and nine (9) years or more experience with ten (10) years in the National Space Security Launch area.

Desired Qualifications
