  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

  • Collaborates with engineering laboratory and production functions to ensure quality standards are in place.

  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.

  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess control and manage risks of product quality and determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.

  • Audits quality systems for development acceptance criteria (parameters based on product result).

  • May undertake root cause analysis of incidents requiring corrective action.

  • Ensures that corrective measures and deviation meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality methodologies and utilize quality tools to help drive continuous improvement.   (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content.  Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee).

Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives.  Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies.  Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules.  Establishes and recommends changes to policies which affect subordinate organization(s).

  • PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. 

  • FREEDOM TO ACT: Work is performed without appreciable direction.  Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.  Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective for desired results.  Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • IMPACT: Guides the successful completion of major programs.  Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.

  • LIASON: Represents organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects.  Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.



  • Reviewing, directing, promoting and using continuous improvement efforts to advance overall quality of Crane operations.

  • Ensuring CMS compliance using performance metrics, Crane Action Management System (CAMS) and other management tools.

  • Working alongside Division managers, Chief engineers (CHENG’s), Department Quality Systems Manager, Branch Managers and personnel of the Quality Management Office to become and sustain compliance to Department, Division, and CMS policies.  

  • Mentoring and assisting Branch Managers and Branch QFPs in their roles and responsibilities related to quality compliance. 

  • Must possess extensive knowledge in identifying system deficiencies, recommending changes, and directing application of quality tools including, but not limited to FPY, BTS, OTD, RCA, Five Whys, Ishikawa Method, Check sheets, Control charts, 8D, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, SPC, GR&R, and 6S. 

  • Accurately and timely communicate all quality corrective actions across all branches, and aid in applying those actions where applicable as part of a continuous improvement effort.

  • Leading quality meetings, developing point papers, providing quality performance data and must stay abreast of the latest in quality programs. 



  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

  • Candidate must be able to obtain a Full DOD Secret Security Clearance.

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.

  • Knowledge of flow charting and using various quality tools in addition to knowledge of engineering disciplines to ensure quality.

  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.

  • Must have the ability to solve problems and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
