SAIC in support of the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Production Corps Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in Colorado has an immediate need for a Senior Systems Engineer focused on engineering activities for the Universal Ground nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Terminal (UGNT) Project Office.  This individual will have experience in Department of Defense (DoD) space-based sensing systems, ground-based system survivability, and NUDET.  Candidate will provide SE&I support to the UGNT Project Manager in support of United States Nuclear Detection Systems (USNDS) Enterprise, a developmental program within the DoD and Department of Energy.  Candidate will support acquisition management activities for DoD to include, but not limited to: technical baseline development and control, integration activities, test planning, schedule management, Operational Test, and risk management.  Candidate should have experience with system acquisition and systems engineering lifecycle for space and ground systems (especially at SMC).  

Major duties of the position include:

  • Support UGNT test planning, scheduling, witnessing, and reporting, author/submit test and lab asset requests to support ongoing testing programs
  • Evaluate and track system readiness to enter operational testing and support Programmatic/Budget/Acquisition planning, oversee maintenance of the technical baseline, including system specifications, engineering documentation and interface documents
  • Assess proposed baseline changes for impacts to requirements satisfaction, verification, and program delivery, apply systems engineering processes to support effective integration, verification, and system transition efforts
  • Manage risks and program schedules for multiple programs, develop acquisition-related briefings, plans, papers, and other documentation to support decision making
  • Ensure effective requirements documentation, integration, and verification within the SBIRS system of systems, collaborate with prime contractors, other support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. Air Force



  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. BS in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical, Communications Engineering (technical), Math, Physics, or similar
  • Active TS/SCI
  • 10-15 years of acquisition management background. Prefer experience that spans the entire system lifecycle, including sustainment
  • Nuclear Detonation Detection System experience at operational or development levels
  • Strong understanding of major system acquisition Integration and Verification and other acquisition management processes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition environment (especially at SMC)
  • Experience with DoD Operational and Developmental testing, writing and delivering technical documents and briefing

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred
  • Experience with Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment Systems
  • Experience in using or developing Nuclear Planning and Execution System
  • Space-based Infrared System (SBIRS) experience
