Description

SAIC is recruiting for a Technical Documentation Writer for our NOAA program with experience writing and updating technical documentation. This individual will update material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of systems and workflows within the program, specifically for development/programming and infrastructure environments. 

Other job duties include:
  • Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation;
  • Study product samples and talk with product designers, developers, and technical staff;
  • Work with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions;
  • Organize and write supporting documents for products and workflows;
  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding;
  • Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals or online videos;
  • Standardize content across platforms and media;
  • Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers;
  • Revise documents as new issues arise;
This position is located in Princeton, NJ at the NOAA - GFDL lab

Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. in Journalism, English, Technical Communications, Computer Science or related field with an emphasis on technical documentation;
  • 2+ years experience as a technical writer/communicator;
  • Proven experience working in a technical writing position;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite;
  • Strong attention to details;
  • Ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences;
  • Skilled at multi-tasking and prioritization;
  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Desired Qualifications

 
  • 2+ years of experience writing workflow and technical documentation for a Development and Infrastructure program;
  • Professional knowledge in one or more physical science fields; 
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical skills; 
  • Understanding of Programming and Development as well as Technical Infrastructure;
