SAIC is seeking a senior system engineer with extensive firsthand experience with supporting mainframe: applications, job scheduling, report generation, and providing real-time analysis and remediation of fault conditions. The position will provide support, problem resolution, and analysis for all of the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) mainframe applications.   Daily activities include reviewing the following mainframe applications: API, FRB, Lockbox, ATS, Adhoc DB, Tax Subsystem, RPO, Statements, Mainframe Utilities, Accounting, Omniplus, Omnipay.  Daily activities include reviewing the following Client server applications:  Daily Notices, Statements, Legacy Statements, 1099R, supporting report archiving  and Connect:Direct transmission processes.

The candidate will need to provide 24/7 support on an on-call basis. 


The well qualified candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  1. Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  2. Strong attention to detail

  3. Datacenter Operations background

  4. Work independently with minimal direct supervision

  5. Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously

  6. Strong organizational and presentation skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

  7. SOP (standard operating procedures) and Checklist review and process, be able to recognize out of ordinary conditions, analyze, and resolve

  8. Knowledge and experience with IBM Mainframes, Mainframe Operations

  9. Experience in project life cycle phases a plus


  1. Supports the Development and Test team’s testing efforts

  2. Participate in the Disaster Recovery exercises

  3. Provide audit information per request

  4. Provides on call Tier 2 support

  5. Monitor media to detect problems that require resolution as part of daily processing

  6. Perform post processing support for production and test file sets as required

  7. Conducts initial analysis on all production job abends and participates in a conference calls for troubleshooting and analysis

  8. Provide a resolution and/or recommendation to the Tier III development staff if a code change is required for mainframe job failures

  9. Services and maintains assigned ServiceNow incidents in a timely manner


Required Skills (extensive knowledge)

Extensive hands-on experience with the following mainframe operating system and software: z/OS, VSAM, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, CICS, CA Scheduler

Languages: COBOL, JCL

Required Education:  Bachelor degree in an IT related discipline and nine (9) years or more of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree and seven (7) years or more of relevant experience
