SAIC is seeking a Summer Intern to gain hands-on experience in the field of Small Satellite Systems Engineering, Development, and Acquisition. A an intern, you will be paired with a mentor for the duration of the internship program, collaborating with satellite system engineers and acquisition professionals, and a program manager supporting SAICs Intelligence Community (IC) customers.  


In this role, you will work with teams developing small satellite systems on accelerated timelines, gaining insight into satellite and ground systems development and management of satellite systems contracts with Industry partners.  


The Summer Intern program is a full time 8-10 week program beginning in late May 2020. The work location is in the Chantilly, VA area with some travel within the USA possible.     

  • Work within a Satellite Systems Program Office (SPO) for a large Government Agency.
  • Work directly with an SAIC Project Engineer, shadowing him or her as they provide engineering oversight to one of the largest Satellite Development Activities in the US Government.
  • Propose, develop, and execute an engineering project that is closely related to the current engineering activities within the SPO.
  • Potential travel opportunities to Satellite Development Factories and other Space related functions and organizations. 


  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate level degree from a US accredited college or university with STEM (Scientific Technical Engineering Mathematics) major.
  • Completed a minimum of 2-3 years of undergraduate coursework.
  • A GPA of 3.0 or better is desired.
  • Experience with or a working knowledge of small satellites is highly desired.
  • Internship requires a TS/SCI security clearance with counterintelligence polygraph, which the candidate will apply for immediately upon selection.
