Description

 Job Description: Make a difference for national security by joining a team of dedicated professionals in El Segundo, CA who assist the US Air Force in developing and deploying the next generation of satellites and ground systems for missile warning (MW) and environmental monitoring (EM) capabilities.  These systems alert senior military officials when missile launches occur around the globe, as well as enable global naval vessel and troop movements by providing mission-critical weather data to ensure safe passage.  Our Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team has an immediate need for a Senior Systems Engineer with space vehicle and mission integration experience in Department of Defense (DoD) space-based systems. Candidate will provide systems engineering and integration expertise in support of the Space and Missile Systems Center’s (SMC) Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Space Based Infrared System program.  Candidate will provide systems engineering and integration support for OPIR space segment to insure requirements, interfaces, and concepts of operations (CONOPS) are captured and documented to insure delivery of critical mission capabilities. Candidate should have experience with system acquisition, systems engineering lifecycle, system integration planning, risk management, architecture, operations concepts, requirements and interface development and maturation for space and ground systems.  Major duties of the position include:

 

  • Providing architecture, operations concept, requirements, and interface control documentation support for integration of space vehicle and ground systems under development.

  • Managing interdependencies, identifying disconnects, between current and future architectures, requirements, and interfaces, and resolving system issues.

  • Supporting the customer in defining, capturing, and maintaining the technical, schedule, and cost risks throughout the system lifecycle and developing risk mitigation courses of action and assessing impacts of risks and proposed changes.

  • Collaborating with prime contractors, other team contractors, government civilians, members of the U.S. Air Force, and external mission stakeholders.     


Qualifications

   

Required Experience, Skills and Attributes:

 

  • Master’s Degree in Math, Science or Engineering with 15+ Years of demonstrated system engineering and integration experience with space, and/or ground segments of DoD or NRO programs with a proven delivery record or a Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Science or Engineering with 17+ Years of demonstrated experience.

  • Extremely motivated individual who is a self-starter and a team player, comfortable with matrixed organizations and leading through influence across multiple organizations

  • At least 10 years of experience working with space vehicle bus subsystems and payload design and integration requirements.

  • Experience working across space and ground segment organizations to coordinate and identify system integration requirements that insure end-to-end mission performance requirements are met.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition environment, with space and/or space and ground systems.

  • Experience providing technical analyses, architecture trade-studies, and program management support to a government customer.

  • Proactive engineer who takes the initiative to identify, own and solve customer problems.

  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.

  • Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Mission experience is highly desirable.

  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience using Sparx Enterprise Architect or other comparable tools.
