Linux Systems Administrator - Military veterans preferred

 SAIC is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator who provides dedicated support to two high profile customers at NASA Langley Research Center on the LITES II contract.  The position requires a self-starter who can work closely with the customer teams to maintain operational reliability, resolve issues, and propose/implement improvements and new solutions.    


Required Skills

  • Bachelors Degree or 4+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
  • 2+ years of solid Linux system administration 
  • Experience using the command line; experience with RHEL/CentOS a plus
  • Experience with basic shell scripting
  • Ability to compile and install open source applications
  • Understanding of IT security best practices
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal / communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation


Experience in the following areas is considered a plus

  • Supporting a research computing environment.
  • Programming experience, with exposure to C is a plus.
  • Use of system monitoring tools such as Xymon, Nagios, etc.
  • Experience administering MacOS X and Windows desktop OSs
  • Experience managing virtual machines using VirtualBox, VMWare, or similar
  • Experience managing apache web servers
  • GNU's Environment Modules.
