Senior HR Business Partner – Maternity Cover – Fixed Term Contract to 31 st May 2021

AECOM has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior HR Business Partner to join its UK and Ireland HR team, supporting the Rail, Bridges and Structures (RBS) sector which covers circa 1,000 employees across the region. We are flexible upon base location with a preference for Birmingham or St Albans. This role will report to the HR Lead of the AECOM UK & Ireland Civil Infrastructure business.

Please note that this is a fixed term contract opportunity.


This role will be accountable to define, deliver and implement the people plan for the Rail, Bridges and Structures sector.

  • Ensure effective and timely implementation of HR initiatives in line with business priorities

  • Applying change management expertise to ensure that changes are planned and implemented in a way that applies best practice, complies with legislation, realises intended benefits and minimises unnecessary ER activity, costs and disruption to delivery performance

  • Support the business with activities relating to employee engagement and talent retention including action planning, feedback and long-term engagement strategy

  • Creating and implementing a resource plan that optimises expertise across the HR function to confidently meet the requirements of our current and future workload.

  • Drive the talent agenda, including succession planning, so that solutions are aligned to business need

  • Lead or support HR projects as required within the UK&I business

Minimum Requirements

  • The role holder will have a proven track record in building effective relationships with senior leadership teams, managing complex organisational and cultural change initiatives and managing the delivery of HR strategies

  • Proactive and solutions oriented with a strong coaching style

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken

  • Developed and implemented people plans and strategies which have influenced business performance in a range of situations/sectors/service types

  • Delivered change and transformation projects with successful outcomes

  • Delivered successful TUPE processes and ideally experience of commercial bidding

  • Understands the key HR leverage points: Learning & Development, Organisational Design, Reward and Performance, Employee Engagement, Employee Relations, Resource and Talent Management, Information and Data

  • Ability to apply legal knowledge in a practical setting

  • Ability to understand and manage employee relations risk

  • Demonstrable experience working within the context of complex, matrix organisations is required

  • The individual will have highly developed commercial skills, be emotionally intelligent and able to coach and influence senior colleagues;

  • Understanding of the markets in which AECOM operates in, including competitors, customers, technologies and trends.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to make evaluative judgments of both factual and qualitative information drawn from a variety of sources.

  • Degree in HR/CIPD equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the infrastructure business environment and challenges facing clients and service providers in our sectors
