AECOM’s Sustainability team comprises of specialists within our Building and Places Business Line. We are recognised as industry leaders in the field of sustainable development. Our projects range from working with Governments to support Building Regulations and National planning policy relating to climate change, to developing energy and sustainability strategies to support the design and planning of new development and the resilience of cities.
We work across all construction stages, from pre-feasibility, through feasibility, design, construction and operation; and across a wide range of sectors - housing, healthcare, schools, universities, offices, retail, hospitality etc. We also deliver advice relating to existing building portfolios and city scale decarbonisation. Our work includes:
Climate Action Plans for local authorities, cities and businesses.
The development of policy on low carbon and renewable energy, climate change and sustainability issues at national, regional and local levels
Preparing industry-leading best practice guidance and policy advice for Government, GLA, RIBA and CIBSE
Sustainable masterplanning of new communities
Energy strategies including the planning and design of decentralised energy infrastructure and energy statements
Sustainability statements and appraisals
Design advice and feasibility studies for new build and refurbishment project
Circular economy strategies and embodied carbon calculations
The development of Corporate Social Responsibility policies and carbon footprint reporting
Research into reducing energy use, improving resilience to climate change and creating more sustainable buildings and places.
In response to growing interest in sustainability issues, we are seeing an increasing demand for our consultancy services to assist building projects, organisations, cities and regions to develop carbon strategies and action plans for achieving net zero emissions.
Your key responsibilities, with support from the team, will include the following:
Provide consultancy support to organisations (public and private sector) to develop carbon reduction and GHG emissions reduction strategies
Provide consultancy support to developers, building estate owners, local authorities, cities and regions to develop multi-sectoral strategies for achieving net zero
Contributing to a wide range of projects as the work load dictates including energy strategies for major new developments
Writing proposals and winning new work
Building client relationships and delivering work
Presentations to clients and chairing meeting
Delivering high quality, clearly written outputs
Delegating work to junior staff and managing delivery.
Has a solid foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals; develops and formulates solutions to client problems on assigned projects.
Under limited supervision, responsible for the creation of work plans and task definitions.
Has broad technical knowledge but possesses an area of specialization or focus.
An ability to communicate effectively, be client-facing and able to write concise and clear reports;
Have a good understanding of and interest in sustainable development issues as they relate to the built environment
Experience in helping organisations to cut carbon emissions
An understanding of recognised Greenhouse Gas reporting methodologies
Experience in compiling energy and emissions data at building or city scales
An understanding of practical approaches for cutting carbon emissions in buildings and the built environment
Experience of stakeholder engagement and stakeholder workshop facilitation
Experience in bidding for or supporting the winning of work
Experience in project and client management
Experience in energy/carbon consulting, or other related experience in the consulting industry
