AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Environmental/Civil Engineering Co-op/Intern for employment in the Newark. DE office. AECOM is searching for candidates that has the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive.

Depending on the student's interests, skills, and project opportunities, the Co-op/Intern could work in one or a combination of the following areas under the direct supervision of an experienced engineer:

  • Site Investigation and remediation

  • Industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment systems

  • Water resources and storm water management

  • Regulatory analysis and compliance assessment

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Collect and analyze field data

  • Perform preliminary engineering and scientific calculations

  • Prepare basic data for drafting permit applications

  • Prepare project drawings and visual aids

  • Perform technical research and utilize computers in developing solutions to engineering assignments, including standard spreadsheet-based models

About our internships:

  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.

  • Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study

  • Intern 2 – completion of second year of qualified study

Minimum Requirements

  • AA/AS (US) + 1 YORE or Diploma/Certification (Canada) + 1 YORE

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a junior or senior at an accredited university with a Science or Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical) major

  • Must be capable of working with standard spreadsheet, word processing, and office software

  • Must have excellent problem solving and computer skills

  • Ability to generate well-written, technically sound reports and communications

  • A valid driver's license to enable travel to project field locations

  • OSHA HAZWOPER 1910.120 certification may provide opportunities for additional work assignments

  • Candidate should be able to work a 5-day weekly schedule through the summer months

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
