Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Architect to be responsible for architectural design of projects within the Whitby, ON office.

Currently the group consists of 12 individuals. We are searching for someone who is creative and enjoys working within a strong multi-discipline Buildings and Places group. This individual must be a licensed Architect with the OAA and will be responsible for the architectural design on a number of projects within a dynamic and strong architectural group. Unlicensed architects will not be considered for this role.

Responsibilities include client communication, consultant coordination, design development, drawing review and contract administration. We are looking for an individual with experience in municipal and commercial projects and broad skills in all phases of project delivery.

They must have a strong, hands-on technical knowledge, document review, consultant coordination and experience in field review and contract administration is essential.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform as Architect

  • Provide support to the Architectural Manager on all phases of building design projects as required

  • Prepare creative, functional and innovative designs for clients

  • Preparation of detailed architectural designs

  • Preparation of specifications

  • Mentor within a team environment

  • Meet with clients to discuss potential new work and/or review project requirements

  • Participate in a design team to produce fully coordinated architectural working drawings and project specifications

  • Collaborate with management on preparation of project proposals and feasibility studies

  • Communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization

  • Preparation of design and contract documents, document checking, conduct construction review and contract administration throughout the duration of a project

  • Communicate with construction team to provide information and solve problems

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture

  • 5-10 years of experience with demonstrated relevant project experience working with Canadian clients

  • Must be a Licensed Architect with the OAA

  • Solid design in institutional, Industrial and Transit buildings

  • Thorough knowledge of building systems and construction detailing

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated strong creativity in design

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills

  • Exceptional technical knowledge of building construction and the Ontario Building Code

  • Ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work within in a dynamic team environment

  • Ability to co-ordinate with a multi-disciplinary in-house consultant team

  • Multi-tasking is very important for this position, combined with attention to detail, time management and organizational skills

  • Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), Outlook, Adobe

  • Proficiency in Revit is a must.

  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning

  • Ability to conduct construction administration

  • Candidate must be dedicated to working hard with an all-hands-on-deck attitude towards completing the work efficiently and accurately

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, Sketchup, and other artistic methods necessary to convey creative ideas

  • LEED certification and project experience is a strong asset

  • WELL certification and project experience is a strong asset
