Job Summary

AECOM is seeking Insulator Lead Hands to join our Husky Sunrise project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a temporary position on a 7/7 shift rotation.

Insulators apply, remove and repair thermal and acoustical insulation (e.g., calcium silicate, glass foam, mineral wool, styrofoam, fiberglass) on all types of industrial equipment (e.g., duct piping, heat exchangers, tanks, vessels).

Responsibilities

  • Consistently display all the knowledge, skills and abilities directly related to the Insulator Journeyperson requirements.

  • Lead a small group of employees in the same trade, playing an intermediate role between workers and supervisors and is responsible for the smooth and safe operation of the team, helping the workers to meet goals and mediating concerns with upper management.

  • Coordinates the team and is responsible for applying policies and procedures.

  • Involved with, and supportive of, disciplinary actions brought about by supervisors.

  • Other duties may include arranging for extra workers, evaluating the quality of work of team members, organizing crew tasks, maintaining work standards, resolving issues between team members, and mentoring apprentices.

  • Promotes a safe work environment and is responsible for the safety of the crew with a clear understanding of any related occupational and safety laws.

  • Ensure team members comply with safety regulations, identify a need for safety training, complete an initial safety and hazard assessment, participate in accident investigations, and see to timely resolution of safety concerns.

  • Accountable for team’s ability to meet production goals and may identify requirements for specific materials or tools and communicate these requests to the appropriate person to support team production.

  • Inform supervisor of any scheduling conflicts and assists in resolving them.

  • Understands the need to prioritize work schedules to meet goals.

  • Reports into Trade or General Foreman, depending on size of the project.

  • May report directly into Superintendent if smaller project.

  1. Qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check, which may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. Qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. To be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Journeyman Certification and/or Interprovincial Red Seal.

  • CSTS-09 (Construction Safety Training Systems) or PST (Petroleum Safety Training).

  • H2S Alive.

  • First Aid – Standard Level C.

  • AWP (Aerial Work Platform).

  • WHMIS GHS2015.

  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement).

  • As this position will have a driving requirement, a valid Class 5 [or 3? or 1?] driver’s license with clean 5-year drivers abstract is required as a pre-employment condition.

Preferred Qualifications

May include some or all dependent on site:

  • CSE (Confined Space Entry).

  • Red Seal preferred or required by provincial regulations and standards.
