Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Planner/Scientist for employment in the Los Angeles, CA office. The job will involve, under the general direction of the Team Leader, the preparation of various CEQA and NEPA documents, regulatory permit application preparation, technical report review, research, and general technical writing in support of the aformentioned. Currently AECOM prepares environmental impact assessment for surface, air, and marine transportation, transit, water, power, oil and gas, and land development projects. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, and have excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills, and be highly client service focused. Most importantly, the candidate must have a positive attitude and a passion for learning and developing their skills as a planner. Candidate should be familiar with California planning law, CEQA, NEPA, federal regulatory and compliance guidelines.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs and regulations.

  • Reviews or assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans and regulations.

  • Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies.

  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, transportation tax base data and occupancy rates.

  • Assists in evaluating re-zonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances and other proposals.

  • Coordinates community review of public and private development projects.

  • Provides information to the public regarding development regulations.

  • Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues.

  • Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Environmental Science or Geography

  • Familiarity with California planning law, CEQA, NEPA, federal regulatory and compliance guidelines

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Knowledge of Google Earth

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
