Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Construction Inspector(s) for immediate employment in the Newark, NJ field office for the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) construction program. The $500-million, 4-year resiliency program includes several construction contracts, and intends to improve flood resiliency of the existing 330 MGD wastewater treatment plant. Civil Structural and Electrical Construction Inspectors will be required.

The Construction Inspector will perform observation and acceptance of the construction work that will include construction of floodwall, stormwater pump stations, and stormwater collection system. Work activities will include excavation, soil disposal, dewatering, relocation of buried utilities, installation of pile foundations, concrete work, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and control systems. The Construction Inspector will have the primary responsibility for assuring quality of the construction. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Observes Contractor’s construction activities. Accepts work completed in compliance with contract documents, rejects defective work, maintains log of rejected work, assists with resolution of construction issues.

  • Communicates daily with the AECOM Resident Engineer in execution of his/her duties. Communicates daily with Contractor’s field team.

  • Tracks progress of work in field. Monitors Contractor’s adherence to schedule and provides input on Contractor’s payment requests.

  • Conducts inspections to ensure that the work is performed in compliance with the contract documents. Ensures delivered materials comply with approved submittals. Observes and approves Contractor’s testing and QA/QC activities.

  • Maintains necessary project documentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports and logs. Prepares other required field documentation as necessary.

  • Provides input for construction changes. Assist with preparation and negotiation of field orders and change orders.

  • Observes implementation of health and safety procedures and practices.

  • Performs other assignments as determined by AECOM Resident Engineer.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction inspector roles on electrical construction projects and / or heavy civil construction projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Engineering Degree.

For Civil - Experience in deep foundations and pile installation.

For electrical - Experience in installation of electrical distribution systems at water or wastewater treatment plants is a plus.
