Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Project Engineer for employment in the Sault Ste. Marie office. The appropriately qualified candidate will have a proven track record in contract administration and inspection, design, design reviews, proposal writing, report writing, and client liaison with the experience and enthusiasm to enhance our municipal design team. The successful candidate will be expected to support the delivery of infrastructure to customers primarily within the municipal water, wastewater and stormwater sector. The role initially will focus primarily on the contract administration and inspection duties associated with a major upgrade to the City of Sault Ste. Marie’s West End Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure contractor compliance with the standards and specifications of the contract documents

  • Maintain records of the contractor human and equipment daily resources

  • Undertake and coordinate site inspections as required as agent of the Owner

  • Liaise and daily follow up with the contractor

  • Communicate and work with other project team members in Sault Ste Marie and other design offices to resolve issues and interpret the contract documents

  • Prepare daily progress reports - this includes works orders, materials delivery, and daily inspections

  • Follow up on any site instructions

  • Apply and implement site quality controls and quality procedures

  • Co-ordinate any site measurements and surveying checks needed

  • Co-ordinate and co-operate with facility operators and client project manager during their site inspections

  • Monitor contractor QA/QC activities and maintain relevant records

  • Preparation of any correspondence including site instructions in accordance with the site requirements

  • Monitor the start-up, commissioning and handover of the works

  • Maintain records of materials tests performed and executed for the works

  • Generate site photographs and field notes, take measurements, coordinate red-line drawings, assist with payment quantities, review of changes, and application of specifications

In addition, to the major project noted above other responsibilities may include:

  • Lead and/or collaborate with existing municipal technical design staff, for municipal infrastructure projects including:

  • Water and wastewater treatment

  • Sewer and watermain design/replacement /reconstruction

  • Site servicing design

  • Potable water pumping, transmission, storage and distribution systems

  • Sanitary drainage and pumping

  • Client liaison and relationship management

  • Prepare documentation related to current or prospective projects, including correspondence, reports, proposals, expressions of interest, and specifications

  • Communicate and work with other project team members in Sault Ste Marie and other regional offices to provide quality service to clients on projects of varying scope and complexity

  • Support new business development

  • Liaise with and assist other departments and offices in the provision of design services to other clients, as applicable

  • Perform financial and budget control duties on projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

  • 8+ years of related experience with municipal infrastructure

  • P. Eng designation in Ontario

  • Wastewater treatment design or operating experience

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work and communicate with clients, contractors and other AECOM staff?

  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related experience with municipal infrastructure

  • Experience in linear municipal infrastructure design.

  • Experience in the design and/or operations of water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations;

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation

  • Project management experience

  • Experience managing staff

  • Good time management skills
