Job Summary

  • Provide effective and respectful supervision to the field crew as well as support to Field and Office Managers.

  • Leading by example, taking ownership for supervisory responsibilities.

  • Leads by example for health and safety processes.

  • Manages health and safety processes in the field

  • May be required to act as a field technician on an as needed basis throughout field season

  • Conduct performance reviews and effectively manage field staff.

  • Provide clear and accurate communication regarding field discoveries, field strategies, and staff issues between the field and office teams.

  • Provide feedback and make decisions regarding the hiring and termination of field technicians.

  • Clearly communicate and document discussions with field technicians regarding performance and behavior.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + 6 Years of related experience or Diploma/Certificate + 8 Years of related experience or HS/GED + 10 Years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Research or Professional class license issued by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport.

  • 3+ years of experience conducting archaeological fieldwork.

  • Less than 1 full season of field supervision under issued R License

  • Acted as support for Licensed Field Supervisors learning for a full field season

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct strenuous physical labour outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to supervise field crews conducting Stages 2-4 archaeological assessments.

  • Experience operating high precision GPS and Total Station equipment.

  • Proven physically ability and care when conducting excavations.

  • Familiarity with MTCS Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists and willingness to seek guidance on using proper standards when needed

  • Artifact identification skills and experience for the identification of both First Nation and Euro-Canadian material.

  • Valid Driver’s License and First Aid certification preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Willingness to continually learn and take direction from Field and Office Managers.

  • Attend work in a prepared manner for all weather conditions, ensuring appropriate weather gear in readily available.

  • Ability to take clear and accurate field notes.

  • Must be willing to work out of town, across Ontario for extended periods of time.

  • Leading by example, taking ownership for supervisory responsibilities.
