Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Planner for employment in the Glen Allen, VA office. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide researching and technical writing for a variety of environmental regulatory documents such as environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other compliance documents

  • Assist on a variety of environmental studies for infrastructure projects including power, water, transportation, and development-related projects

  • Prepare materials and graphics in support of environmental, planning, landscape architecture, and community outreach projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies; geography or urban studies with an environmental emphasis/focus; or a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, biology, agriculture, geology, soil science, or other scientific fields)

  • Exceptionally strong research, writing, verbal, organization skills

  • Ability to understand and interpret technical information and accurately and concisely summarize for general audiences both verbally and in writing

  • Knowledge of environmental data collection, identification, investigation, and data entry

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision

  • Strong working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required

  • Position may require field work and candidate must be able to travel

  • Writing sample and college transcripts required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and analysis

  • Familiarity with graphic design and layout of reports and presentations

  • Incumbent Responsibilities:

  • At the direction and oversight of senior staff, prepare all or portions of environmental compliance documents that are technically accurate, legally sufficient, and support client objectives.

  • Conduct research on natural and environmental resources using a variety of online databases and resources as well as printed materials.

  • Attend client meetings to learn about project details and record minutes

  • Assist with natural and environmental resource field studies as needed to collect data and support the preparation of permits or other documentation

  • Coordinate with regulatory and resource agencies with regard to NEPA, ecological studies and permitting

  • Work in regional program areas related to natural/water resources planning, community development, coastal zone management and others
