Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Permitting Compliance Specialist in Newark, DE. The successful candidate must be able to quickly learn how to maintain the client’s internal schedule with facility regulatory permitting. In addition, the position requires flexibility in work assignment to match the demands of project teams. The successful candidate will initially work under a peer review process to support and evaluate performance on assigned tasks.

Position responsibilities:

  • Assist with permitting and compliance across many regulatory agencies, including but not limited to air, surface water, groundwater withdrawal, underground injection control, Tier II reporting, building permits, pesticides registrations, etc.

  • Assist in preparing groundwater reports, work plans, sampling and analysis plans, feasibility studies, and remedial action plans.

  • Assist in preparing environmental permit applications (e.g., air permitting, wastewater discharge permitting, etc.).

  • Read and understand environmental regulations and explain clearly to a variety of audiences.

  • Communicate with regulators and manufacturing site personnel.

  • Record, track, and communicate large amounts of data and information. Accuracy and clarity is a must.

  • Confers with the client to obtain accurate and complete information to properly permit facilities.

  • When applicable, enter data into client-based software which is used to manage data.

  • Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

  • Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.

  • Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Minimum Requirements

BS/BA + 4 years of experience or AA/AS (US) four (4) years’ experience in environmental compliance and/or permitting or related field.

Must possess valid Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledgeable of state and federal environmental regulatory framework and processes for facility permitting. Working knowledge of RCRA, waste characterization and Waste Regulation, DOT classifications is a bonus.

Ability to communicate verbally and in written form to impart technical information and interact with clients and regulatory personnel.

Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple requests and prioritize client requests within time sensitive deadlines.

Effective time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Must be a quick learner and able to grasp scientific concepts and apply them to different technical challenges.

Must be a self-starter and motivated in producing high-quality results for clients.

Must be able to effectively work in a team environment.
