Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads-by-example, managing a small team of Data Engineers and Database Administrators
  • Performs hands-on PostgreSQL RDBMS and Big Data framework (e.g., Hive/Hadoop) design, development, and maintenance
  • Delivers data engineering services to support Agile-Scrum application development teams
  • Works side-by-side with application developers to define and implement viable data models
  • Designs and documents all program data models, including the logical and physical schemas 
  • Designs and implements data index and partition schemes to meet performance objectives
  • Generates and validates DDL and DML
  • Creates and maintains the program’s Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD) and Data Element Dictionary (DED), compliant with the FAA's NAS Enterprise Architecture Framework
  • Implements a secure data solution compliant with NIST and FAA standards
  • Develops and implements a migration plan to retrieve, extract, transform and load legacy data to new schemas
  • Defines and documents procedures  to maintain program data over its service entire lifecycle (initial load, on-going maintenance, performance tuning, backup, archive, recovery)
  • Provides input and review of other program deliverables
  • Provides briefings to senior management and the customer, as required
  • Provides weekly status to senior management

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a science, technology, engineering or math discipline or an equivalent discipline is required and minimum of ten (10) years of relevant data engineering experience. Relevant experience includes designing, creating and managing enterprise data models and data information flows. Experience leading data engineers and database system administrators to perform data migration and maintenance of operational databases.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience leading a small team of data engineers is a must
  • Individual must be a self-starter and be capable of independently leading a team of multi-disciplined data engineers and database administrators
  • Expert level experience with both relational databases NoSQL Big-Data is required; PostgreSQL and Hive/Hadoop are a plus
  • Data engineering support to Agile-Scrum development team  
  • Relevant experience in multiple system engineering disciplines to include at a minimum: database system design, interface design, database performance engineering, test, and operational maintenance 
  • Knowledge of Big Data configuration and performance design is required
  • Hands-on experience with database tuning is required
  • Knowledge of AWS Cloud hosted database experience is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with Erwin Data Modeler 2019 is a plus
  • FAA systems domain knowledge is a plus
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • US Citizenship required
