Wargaming Subject Matter Expert

MAJOR DUTIES

Performs duties for Air Force Institute of Technology Logistics and Systems (AFIT/LS). AFIT is committed to providing defense-focused graduate and professional continuing education and research to sustain the technological supremacy of America’s air and space forces. AFIT’s mission is to advance air, space, and cyberspace power for the Nation, its partners, and our armed forces by providing relevant defense-focused technical graduate and continuing education, research, and consultation. This position involves:

  • Providing product support in the form of developing, editing, modifying and teaching course materials.
  • Developing military wargaming curriculum, instruct acquisition and operational students how to conduct wargames, facilitate discussions, and enable student-centered active learning using classrooms/technology available at AFIT and conduct consulting.

FACTORS Knowledge Required by the Position:

  • Needs to understand Joint Publication 1-02 and have a working knowledge of Department of Defense DoD 5000.02/.74/.75 and Air Force Instruction (AFI) 63-101
  • Should have some understanding of what Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) are and the proper content for these based on Air Force Space Command Instruction (AFSPCI) 10-260, Tactics Development Program or other AF policy address TTP development.
  • Needs to have a working knowledge of acquisitions and understand tactics related to acquisitions in order to identify threats (risks) to the success of an acquisition program
  • Needs to understand how to perform creative idea generation activities such as 'pre-mortems' and brainstorming sessions
  • Ability to perform required tasks for designing and delivering military wargaming exercise experiences for the acquisition workforce as part of their continuing education
  • Demonstrate familiarity with joint military wargaming exercises to provide experiential learning employing the students’ critical thinking abilities that is distinct from case studies, exercises, and lectures
  • An earned Bachelor degree in relevant field of study with demonstrated teaching ability. A Master’s degree (or higher) and/or professional teaching experience of adult students is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated professional knowledge with 6-15 years of specialized experience in designing, facilitating, and/or participating in wargames
  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with AFIT organization structure, research initiatives and processes, and points-of-contact is desirable
  • Eligible to obtain a SECRET security clearance background check investigation and possess a government common access card (CAC).
