Job Summary

  • Provides technical leadership for a specialty and is considered to be a fully capable professional in their field.

  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on technical problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences.

  • Resolves important questions and plans and coordinates work.

  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.

  • Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.

  • Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments.

  • Has mastered the development of a discipline culture focused on performance excellence across the company’s projects.

  • Fully leads the focus on increasing the capabilities of the discipline across all offices and across all levels of employees.

  • Has mastered the development and review of discipline design, work processes, procedures, and guidelines to improve discipline consistency, work sharing effectiveness and performance.

  • Fully leads the driving of work sharing decisions consistent with the company’s strategic direction.

  • Can fully lead the discipline in setting the development of manpower, man-hour and labor cost requirements for projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of the role of materials management.

  • Advanced knowledge of the company’s business development process.

  • Fully versed in financial terminology and leads others in the application of financial measures.

  • Establishes and monitors the effectiveness of employee development planning and goal setting for the discipline with input and feedback.

  • Facilitates and supports the identification of top talent among discipline employees and provides mentoring/coaching for such talent.

  • Develops employees to expand their personal capabilities and create a culture of learning.

  • Assists in the development of the company’s succession planning objectives for engineering leadership and technical subject matter experts.

  • Participates in the overall staffing plan for the discipline based on workload forecast input from Engineering Director, Discipline Leads, Project Engineering Managers and Group management. Facilitates overall work-sharing of talent.

  • Supports the collection and evaluation of project performance data in an effort to maintain or improve project performance including engineering cost performance, schedule performance, rework and quantity tracking.

  • Collects and evaluates discipline productivity benchmarks, working with the other Discipline Leads.

  • Maintains organized personal work management techniques and sets level of performance for the discipline.

  • Builds and guides department staff in productive relationships with organizations within and external to Engineering.

  • Participates with management in development of business strategies and plans.

  • Proves a strong safety culture and builds it within the discipline

  • Proves a strong quality culture and help discipline staff to develop their own
