FTI is currently seeking an experienced Senior System Engineer to support the Space and Missile Systems Center Enterprise Corps Engineering (SMC/ECE) in El Segundo, California. The candidate must have working knowledge and experience in assessing the adequacy and risk of the various space systems, understanding of Mission Assurance best practices and be familiar with the DOD acquisition processes for military and commercial space systems and AFI 63-101/20-101.
This position requires a Secret clearance and the candidate must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI.
• The candidate will directly support the Space Missile Command Enterprise Corps Director of Engineering (SMC/ECE)
• The candidate must provide technical expertise and insight into the effective execution of systems engineering on space systems
• Must have working knowledge of Mission Assurance best practices and critical processes during the entire life cycle of AF space system
• Provide independent assessments and document all of the program technical risk
• Assess all program Mission Assurance procedures and ensure they are in compliance with the recommended government procedures
• Attend various meetings such as: Program Management Reviews; Risk Management Boards; Acquisition Strategy Boards; Acquisition contract development reviews; and other various meetings that the customer deems necessary
• Assist the SMC/ECE team in the developing various technical system engineering reports and be able to brief the SMC/ECE Director of Engineering, PM, PEO, SAF AQ and other stake holders on the results
• Independently analyze, identify, document all program Space Vehicles or Launch Vehicles risk and risk mitigation procedures
• Evaluate and advise the SMC/ECE Director of Engineering on possible program Space Flight Worthiness (SFW) certification plans
• Review program SFW compliance reports and provide feedback to the programs on the adequacy of the artifacts/justification for compliance to the designated criteria
• Manage the execution of the SMC Launch Readiness Review (LRR) and Flight Readiness Review (FRR) process for SMC/ECE
• Assist the SMC/ECE team and programs to ensure the LRR/FRR processes are in compliance with various DoD/Government agencies and the FAA licensed/Commercial mission and launch requirements in accordance with AFSPCI 13-610
• Maintain a comprehensive record for each LRR and FRR and ensure all actions and liens are accurately recorded and documents attesting to the SFW of the vehicles and mission are complete and approved
• Leverage FTI small business innovation research (SBIR) analysis methods and tools to enhance engineering processes and improve rigor of Course of Action (COA) assessments Leverage FTI SBIR-developed tools to include but not limited to Integrated Cost as an Independent Variable (I-CAIV), Readiness Assessment Engine (RAE), NormNet Prognostic Health Management, Integrated Sensor Analysis Tool (I-SAT), and the Extensible Load-Adaptive Processing Service (ELAPSE)
• Must possess an active government Secret security clearance and must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI
• Master’s degree in Engineering or Aerospace related technical discipline
• 15+ years actively working as System Engineer (background in Space Systems to include payload sensors, space vehicles, launch vehicles and ground systems)
• 10+ years of Program Management and/or supervisory experience within a DoD and AS9100 environment
• 10+ years Space Systems acquisition specializing in satellites, control and ground and communications systems
• Previous experience at SMC is strongly preferred
• Solid understanding and execution of the engineering disciplines that support Mission Assurance.
• Experience with current and next generation space architecture development and requirements
• Familiar with tracking tools such as Rational Tool Suite and DOORS
• Experience developing and reviewing space vehicle and launch vehicle Test and Evaluation process
• Familiarity with MS Excel and other MS Office tools
• Familiarity with program data management and digital engineering tools such as JIRA and Confluence
• Ability to work with cross functional teams
• Ability to work independently with geographically dispersed team
• Ability to travel (~10% of time)
