Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Hydraulic Specialist to join our CNRL Horizon project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a full-time position on a 14/14 shift rotation.

The Hydraulic Specialist will maintain and improve, at an advanced level, all equipment associated with installation, repair, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems to support OPP Maintenance and Reliability Programs.


  • Perform complex hydraulic and mechanical system repairs with minimal supervision

  • Maintain and troubleshoot and make design recommendations to hydraulic equipment

  • Install and support equipment with moderate fabrication and rigging in conjunction with Engineering and Maintenance under minimal supervision

  • Monitor equipment conditions utilizing established Preventive Maintenance inspection procedures and checklists

  • Maintain necessary documentation including machine histories, preventive maintenance check sheets, and logbooks

  • Troubleshoot and repair of lubrication systems and components

  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic circuit components

  • Troubleshoot electrical control systems

  • Troubleshoot and repair gear, belt and chain drives

  • Dis-assemble and repair shaft bearings and seal assemblies

  • Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic circuit components

  • Develop and implement Continuous Improvement projects which improve efficiency, reduce scrap, or eliminate waste

  • Improve ergonomic, safety, environmental and/or quality practices

  • Learn proper maintenance of new equipment with latest technology

  • Housekeeping and other activities as assigned

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required Certificate in Hydraulics Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright Trades certification specific in the field of hydraulics, pneumatic, electrical, & mechanical principal and theory Industrial maintenance certification or equivalent experience in the field.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence is required advanced hydraulic knowledge, including broad knowledge of:

  • Troubleshooting and repair of all hydraulic equipment & systems b. Hydraulic theory and application associated with OPP equipment c.

  • Ability to learn new hydraulic systems

  • Experience in maintaining and improving hydraulic, mechanical and all associated equipment (5-7 years preferred)

  • Complete understanding of operation of hydraulic systems.

  • As this position will have a driving requirement, a valid Class 5 [or 3? or 1?] driver’s license with clean 5-year drivers abstract is required as a pre-employment condition.

Safety tickets required

  • CSTS-09 (Construction Safety Training Systems) or PST (Petroleum Safety Training)

  • CSE (Confined Space Entry)

  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement)
