FTI is currently seeking an experienced System Engineer to support the Space and Missile Systems Center Enterprise Corps Engineering (SMC/ECE) in El Segundo, California. The candidate will have working system engineering knowledge and experience executing and assessing the adequacy of the various space systems, understanding of Mission Assurance best practices and be able to manage/execute the acquisition of military and commercial space systems in accordance with DoD and SMC acquisition procedures.
This position requires a Secret clearance and the candidate must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI.
Provide expert advice to the SMC Enterprise Director of Engineering and Senior Air Force Leadership regarding acquisition strategies, contracting, budgeting and execution
Be able to create, coordinate, document and brief program technical evaluations, acquisition strategies for rapid prototypes, budgets, contracts, SOW, RFPs, CDRLs, J&A, ASP, ASD, etc. to senior leadership and other stakeholders
Must be able to interact with the prime contractor and government leads to ensure that all system and acquisition requirements are coordinated, scheduled and planned for programs across the SMC Enterprise Corps
Support the government in defining, capturing, and maintaining the technical risk base line, schedule, and cost throughout the programs acquisition life-cycle
Conduct technical deep dives in collaboration with the Lead System Engineer and others to ensure solutions are integrated and effectively meet the customer needs
Perform technical reviews, assessments, coordinate analyses and brief all stakeholders
Independently identify program issues, evaluate alternatives, develop plans, resolve technical issues and interface with functional areas across SMC
Assist the SMC/ECE team in SMC Space Flight Worthiness certification plans, Flight Readiness Reviews
Be able to support the SMC/ECE Director of Engineering Director Action Group
Support acquisition process and innovation
Leverage FTI small business innovation research (SBIR) analysis methods and tools to enhance engineering processes and improve rigor of Course of Action (COA) assessments Leverage FTI SBIR-developed tools to include but not limited to Integrated Cost as an Independent Variable (I-CAIV), Readiness Assessment Engine (RAE), NormNet Prognostic Health Management, Integrated Sensor Analysis Tool (I-SAT), and the Extensible Load-Adaptive Processing Service (ELAPSE)
Must possess an active government Secret clearance and must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI
Master’s degree in Engineering or Aerospace related technical discipline
10+ years actively working as System Engineer (background in Space Systems to include payload sensors, space vehicles, launch vehicles and ground stations)
5+ years of Program Management and Space Systems acquisition specializing in satellites, ground systems and military/commercial communications systems
Previous experience at SMC is strongly preferred
Familiar with TMT and other SMC Director Action Group functions
Ability to think critically, synthesize information from multiple sources into comprehensive plans, identify technical issues, and understand program impacts
Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings
Excellent organizational, verbal and written communications skills
Familiarity with MS Excel and other MS Office tools
Familiarity with program data management and digital engineering tools such as JIRA and Confluence
Ability to work with cross functional teams
Ability to work independently with geographically dispersed team
Ability to travel (~10% of time)
Strong written and oral communication skills
