Job Summary

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignements.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design

elements for engineering works.

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks with minimum oversight

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids such as load calculations, short circuit, lighting levels, voltage drop and similar calculations related to power system engineering and design development

  • Work under limited supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member, and be able to serve as the technical lead for projects coordinating work of entry-level staff

  • Design low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems and building services for commercial, institutional, water/wastewater, industrial and military facilities. The design includes preparing design drawings (single line diagrams, plans, wiring schematics, control schematic, schedules, etc.)

  • Perform electrical system studies and calculations (load, harmonics, voltage drop, short circuit, coordination and arc flash)

  • Perform electrical system calculations using power analytical software packages (Ex. SKM, ETAP, and Easy Power)

  • Perform electrical systems design including switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, distribution panels, and other electrical distribution systems

  • Provide design for lighting, fire alarm, telephone, security and grounding systems

  • Provide design for control system hardware and software (PLC and SCADA), control system networking, and process equipment control panels.

  • Review and coordinate instrumentation, process control system P&IDs, mechanical and HVAC systems and design their related electrical systems

  • Develop electrical equipment and instrumentation and control specifications

  • Review equipment shop drawings

  • Perform construction phase engineering support

  • Perform field inspections of electrical systems and attend system startup field activities

  • Ability to handle design and support of multiple projects at the same time

Minimum Requirements

BS Electrical engineering and 3 years of Experience

Preferred Qualifications

five + years of Electrical engineering experience in Civil Engineering projects
