SAIC is seeking an Systems Engineer Intern to join our team of qualified, diverse, and highly motivated individuals. This position will be located at SAIC office in Arlington (Rosslyn), VA supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). The qualified candidate will provide engineering and technical support, including extensive research, to assessments and recommendations on future technologies for the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense, Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)).

Our Engineering Intern will join the OUSD(R&E) Technology & Manufacturing Industrial Base (TMIB) team that specializes in providing assessments and policy recommendations on future technologies like artificial intelligence and hypersonic vehicles.

Tasking would include:
  • Create assessments on defense technologies critical to the United States maintaining superior military capabilities
  • Conduct detailed research of open source and other materials on topics such as supply chain risk related to research and development and industrial base capabilities and capacity
  • Assimilate data into meaningful trends to identify potential risk to DoD programs
  • Coordinate engagement with stakeholders from numerous U.S. Departments and Agencies and Industry Partners
  • Schedule meetings, track tasking, and manage stakeholder relationships
  • Assist in the development of technical briefings to appropriate stakeholders on research study results, resourcing strategies, and recommendations
  • Design creative solutions and propose alternative approaches


  • Eligibility for a DoD Secret clearance
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science, preferably systems, electrical, computer, aerospace, or mechanical engineering
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals and systems engineering concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
  • Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Experience with DoD acquisition processes
  • Knowledge of various USD(R&E) technology modernization priority areas to include artificial intelligence, hypersonic vehicles, directed energy, cyber, space systems, autonomy, microelectronics, and quantum computing
  • Knowledge of programming languages and software design processes
