SAIC is currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented VMWare Storage Engineer to join our team in Washington, DC and support the development, operation and maintenance of system capabilities and infrastructure systems.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Defines and analyzes architecture to establish operating conditions, conducts tests, s and related technical data to determine feasibility of developing new capabilities and/or modifying existing capabilities to meet customer requirements, SLAs and operational goals.
  • The candidate should be proficient with Change Management practices, and collaborates with various Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Project Teams, and Government entities. Duties:
  • Lead and guide the work of junior technical staff. Serve as liaison between PM and technical staff in all aspects of projects. Plan project stages and assess business implications for each stage
  • Support in a lead role on related projects involving on-premise and cloud
  • Responsible for operational availability of all the systems hosted on the infrastructure
  • Support planning and building infrastructure supporting COOP & DR plans
  • Support information assurance process in a technical role by complying with technical controls
  • Provide operational guidance for best practices on effective and efficient utilization of storage resources
  • Understand client requirements and how they translate into service strategies and align with the technology features
  • Collaborate with a team of IT professionals to set specifications for new solutions
  • Design creative prototypes, proof of concepts according to specifications
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications, system issues and latency
  • Evaluate existing systems and storage allocation to recommend operating procedures to assure effective and efficient use of the agency's storage resources
  • Develop technical documents and handbooks to provide guidance on storage utilization best practices, Tier 2 operating procedures for issues, and best practices for storage utilization
  • VMware administration responsible for configuration, maintenance monitoring, and overall support of multiple VMware environments
  • Setup, install, configure, and triage ESXi Hosts (Rack Mount and Blade Servers).
  • Maintain and restore VM backups and snapshots
  • Perform Systems Lifecycle management for all equipment, including planning, implementation, maintenance, upgrades, consolidation, and decommissioning of enterprise hardware, and software
  • Detects, isolates, documents, reports, and resolves system outages or problems encountered during operations of the operational baseline, which includes collecting diagnostic data, restore the system operation, developing workarounds, and other activities necessary for recovery of a system
  • Performs system monitoring, analyzing, documenting performance, and conducting trend analysis as required



Bachelors degree in computer science or relevant field and 10 years of relevant experience.

Required Skills:

  • 6-8 years' experience with VMware and strong knowledge of VMware 6.0 or higher to include vCenter, vSphere, and ESX 6.x, vCloud Suite
  • Solid understanding of networking, VLAN, and NetApp storage
  • Prefer VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Experience with rack/wiring diagrams, firmware, and driver management
  • 3+ years of experience installing and configuring NetApp storage systems supporting VMware
  • 2 years of experience with AWS or Azure storage solutions
  • Familiarity with DevOps and ITIL processes
  • Experience supporting US Government customer(s) at a minimum, experience supporting Health and Human Services, General Services Administration or USPTO preferred
