Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking an Electrician Apprentice to join our CNRL Albian project team for the 2020 Spring Turnaround Season.

This is a temporary role , supporting the site operations on various tasks relating to the turnaround of the Albian Plant. Rotation will be 12 days on, 2 days off unless otherwise specified.

  • Start Dates: Early-Mid April, 2020

  • Approximate duration: 30-60 Days

  • Location: Fort McMurray Area

  • Travel: Charter flights provided from Calgary and Edmonton, and bus from Fort McMurray.

  • Accommodation: Camp accommodation will be provided to all workers.

  • Shift and Work Hours: Craft workers will be doing a 12/2 rotation, with the 2 days off in camp.

  • Work hours: 11.5 and a half-hour lunch for a total of 12 hours per day.

  • Day Shift and Night Shift available.

  • Overtime Eligibility: All craft will be eligible for overtime (after 8 hours per day/ 40 hours per work week).

  • CLAC Union agreement in place; with competitive rates.

Electricians install, alter, repair and maintain electrical systems designed to provide heat, light, power, control, signal or fire alarms for all types of buildings, structures and premises.


  • Be able to take directions, and receptive to training and mentoring.

  • Expertly identify and able to proficiently install almost all material components.

  • Expert conduit skills.

  • Expert with circuitry planning and installations.

  • Expertly read and comprehend drawings and specifications.

  • Expert control systems planning and installation.

  • Expert tool usage, both personal (personal tools minimum listed below) and supplied:

  • Tool pouch

  • Side cutters

  • Wire strippers

  • Philips screwdriver

  • Hacksaw

  • Stakon pliers

  • Linesman pliers

  • Water pump pliers

  • Chanel locks

  • Tape measure

  • Needle nose pliers

  • #6 screwdriver – Robertson

  • #8 screwdriver – Robertson

  • Terminating screwdriver

  • Small flat screwdriver

  • Large flat screwdriver

  • Knife

  • Level

  • ½ - 1 ¼ KO cutters

  • Multi-meter

  • 3/8 socket set

  • Open end wrench to 1”

  • Crescent wrench

  • Allan wrench set

  • Voltage tester

  • Hammer

  • Tool box

  • 14” Pipe wrench

  • Proficiently size, plan and install electrical services.

  • Expert with multiple types of installations.

  • Adhering to safe work practices and procedures.

  • Hazardous location requirements.

  • Maintain exceptional workmanship.

  • Proficient multi-meter, Meggar, Phase Rotation meter and AMP-Meter usage.

  • Basic ARC Flash awareness.

  • Mentor junior apprentices.

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Registered Trade Apprentice.

  • Construction Safety Training Systems - 09 (CSTS-09) Certification required.

  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Overhead Crane ticket.

  • AWP (Ariel Work Platform).

  • CSE (Confined Space Entry).

  • A valid Class 1 or Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
