This position is located at the Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate, Aerospace Components and Subsystems Tech Division, Optoelectronic Technology Branch (RYDH). RYDH performs basic and applied research to discover and develop novel optoelectronic, laser, and power electronic concepts through the exploitation of structure-property interactions to ensure continued USAF sensor and countermeasure technology dominance.
We are currently seeking a high energy Laser Engineer or Laser Scientist to provide support on multiple laser programs involving building, modeling, and evaluating high energy laser systems. Candidates must display a strong understanding of laser physics and basic engineering principles.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Support laser material and optical designs that have ties to modeling and simulation results. Provide modeling results relevant to theoretical laser designs and support building and modeling of high energy laser systems. Provide innovative ideas and solutions for supporting test programs as well as modeling and simulation analysis systems.
MS in Physics, Optical Engineering, or equivalent with 3 years of laser-based experience
Ph. D. in Physics, Optical Engineering, or equivalent with 1 year relevant experience
Basic knowledge of laser engineering relating to construction and testing of lasers. Advanced understanding of modeling and simulation of laser effects in gain media. Familiarity with numerical modeling software packages, including but not limited to, MATLAB, Mathematica, LabVIEW, COMSOL. Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a secret clearance.
