AECOM is seeking a Welder Helper to join our CNRL Horizon project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a full-time position on a 7/7 shift rotation.
Welders join or sever metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components, make metal parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and weld parts, tools, machines and equipment. Welders develop patterns for projects or follow directions given in layouts, blueprints and work orders, clean, check for defects and shape component parts, sometimes using a cutting torch and welding parts together.
Apply safe work practices according to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS) legislation and WHMIS in relation to welding trade.
Select, describe the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe practices for climbing, lifting, rigging and hoisting in this trade.
Describe the safety practices for hazardous materials and fire protection.
Understand the role of the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board and the network of industry committees that represent the trades and occupations in Alberta.
Safely use hand tools and power tools.
Safely assemble and use oxyfuel equipment.
Cut and gouge using the plasma arc and carbon arc cutting processes.
Read and interpret drawings, locate and record heat numbers.
Understand electrical concepts, types of metals and their characteristics, joints and weld types.
Interpret welding symbols, distortion and methods of control.
Identify weld faults.
Interpret and apply Welder Instruction Sheets/ Weld procedures; select the correct welding rod and preheat temperatures based on the WIS/WP supplied to them.
Comprehend and utilize trade math such as solving problems involving fractions and decimals, ratios, and geometric formulas.
Utilize both metric and imperial measures.

This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.
For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.
Current Registered Trade Apprentice.
CSTS-09 (Construction Safety Training Systems) or PST (Petroleum Safety Training).
CSE (Confined Space Entry).
Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement).
May include some or all dependent on site:
First Aid – Standard Level C.
AWP (Aerial Work Platform).
