AECOM’s Power and Industrial group are currently working across several diverse and challenging projects in transmission and distribution. Our specialist high voltage infrastructure team in Townsville are looking for a proven Engineer to utilise their power engineering and design knowledge and grow their career in diverse projects, while leading and mentoring junior engineers and graduates.

The Role

The key purpose of this position is to provide power engineering support to the delivery of transmission and distribution projects. Typical activities include; coordination of detailed design, design reviews, detailed specifications, report writing, calculations and relay configuration.

More broadly, activities and expectations of the role will include, but are not restricted to the following:

  • Undertaking a variety of roles including guiding junior engineers from project development to delivery, and leading diverse projects alongside other Senior Engineers.

  • Accepting personal responsibility for the performance of assigned tasks, to be proactive and display initiative.

  • Adaptive approach to a ranging and diverse project portfolio, with differing clients and changing environments, typically across varied utilities and mining or resources sectors.

The Senior Power Engineer will work proactively as part of the broader Power team on a variety of utility network, mining and resources projects including supporting colleagues in other AECOM offices across the region, with specialists based in all major centres delivering our major projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a part time basis and utilise our working from home initiative, while utilising your proven experience with local mining, resources, energy or utility providers and influencing our design delivery across power distribution projects.

This role will enable you to work from our cutting-edge Townsville office with full flexible working options, while operating across a broad regional team supporting our increasingly diverse project portfolio in Utilities, Resources, Mining and Energy.

Your interest and ability to coach and mentor junior staff will be a key selection criterion, alongside some or all of the following attributes:

  • Relevant Bachelor of Engineering degree;

  • Proven experience in primary and secondary detailed design;

  • Detailed knowledge of HV Power Systems and equipment;

  • Excellent understanding of local Power regulations, procedures and systems;

  • Ability to work independently on projects in a technical capacity, while working closely with internal (AECOM) stakeholders;

  • Prior involvement in delivery of detailed design, detail scope, materials for projects and detailed knowledge of design techniques;

  • Excellent and proven understanding of substation design and HV infrastructure methodology.

  • Knowledge or background in either an Engineering Consultancy or Asset Owner, strongly preferred;

  • Proven experience in Queensland (or interstate) utility network, highly desirable;

  • Attainment or demonstrated progression towards Registration with the Board of Engineers, Queensland, highly desirable.
