Title:

Deputy Space Food Systems Laboratory Manager (Supporting NASA at Johnson Space Center)

Position Description:

Summary: The position will be with the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) supporting NASA’s Human Systems Engineering Department at JSC, within the Space Food Systems Laboratory. The Deputy Laboratory Manager will assist with laboratory facility management and provide back-up support to the International Space Station Food Systems subtask lead. Tasks include, but are not limited to, coordination of facility maintenance with JSC assigned facility manager, coordination of safety documentation and reporting, budget analysis, materials purchasing, participation in tours or other public education activities, and KBR business development activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the contractor laboratory manager with the following tasks:
  • Coordinate/schedule facility maintenance and utility outages with JSC assigned facility manager
  • Safety walk-throughs
  • Liaison with the KBR Quality Management System Office for:
  • internal/external audits
  • job hazard analyses
  • documentation and recordkeeping
  • Assist the ISS Food System subtask lead with the following tasks:
  • Monthly budget analysis
  • Basis of Estimate development, business development proposal participation
  • Materials purchase oversight
  • Weekly reporting
  • Additional tasks as assigned
  • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
  • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training

Education/Experience:

Required:

BS in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Occupational Health, or a related science or engineering field, with demonstrated experience in laboratory management.

Desired:

Experience with NASA and/or NASA systems and processes.

Understanding of the ISS food systems and processes

Skills/Training:

Required:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, MS Project, PowerPoint and associated tools

Desired:

  • Ability to identify integration concerns and gaps in information, and communicate those to leadership and customers in a diplomatic manner.
