Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, creative, and highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with dynamic, exciting, and challenging design projects in the design and construction industry.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as well as plumbing systems for commercial and institutional facilities

  • Takes a leadership position for mechanical designs produced

  • Train and mentor junior mechanical staff in the MEP group through utilization on projects

  • Produce plans, specification, cost estimates and reports

  • Reviews, provides input to and final acceptance of, all Mechanical Engineering designs, calculations, analyses, and reports produced by consultants and Agency staff

  • Provides support to assigned project manager by identifying issues, evaluating alternative solutions, and providing recommendations

  • Coordinates with structural, architectural, electrical, and other disciplines for multi-discipline projects to assure his/her design meets all project needs

  • Assist with proposals by providing cost proposals and write ups for work to be performed

  • Participate in QA/QC efforts for all work produced

  • Assist in preparing proposals and presenting to Clients

  • Be conscience of project budget constraints for projects and plan work accordingly

  • Conduct field inspections to locate equipment and evaluate existing conditions

  • Provides design support during construction

  • Reviews and provides acceptance of construction contractor detailed installation information and any changes to the accepted design. In this context works closely with Construction Management and the Contractors to determine the most reliable cost effective means of meeting Agency Goals

  • Coordinates designs with Agency Operations, Facilities, Quality Assurance and Systems Safety staff members to ensure all opportunities for continuous improvement are taken advantage of

  • Work within a project team environment

  • Maintain and organize all project related documentation in accordance with company policy

  • Plan and organize work that follows a defined process

  • Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company, client and industry standard practices

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering Program

  • 7+ years of experience with an engineering firm designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, industrial or institutional facilities

  • Experience using AutoCAD and Revit

  • The ability to work with, interpret, and apply national and local building codes

  • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing

  • Proficient in Building Load Calculation and Energy Modeling

  • Strong written communication, presentation, and client interface skills

  • Knowledge of sound engineering principles

  • Knowledge of pertinent laws, codes and regulations

  • Registered professional engineer with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states if necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supervising other technical staff

  • 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering

  • Cost estimating experience a plus

  • Ability to take responsibility for given tasks with limited supervision while proactively developing standard practices and new techniques

  • Physically able to climb ladders and enter utility manholes, tunnels, and other mechanical equipment spaces and railroad facilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with others, work well in a team and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholder

  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, creative and make independent decisions

  • Additional Industry Certifications such as LEED AP, CxA or CEM
