BI Developer

Core Responsibilities

The BI developer will bring best practice data management to the Government Solutions business. They will use proven data warehousing and dimensional modelling skills to bring together data from multiple sources and provide well governed data solutions for business analysts to interrogate.

The BI developer will be an expert in the Microsoft BI stack and will be able to advise how to best utilise and configure the various applications in order to develop high quality data pipelines for onward analysis.

The role will build a relationship with data owners in the UK and US, and work with them to proactively identify valuable data and load it into local data structures.

We are looking for a self-starter with an enquiring mind who is confident in their own decision-making ability, with a strong focus quality and process improvement.

The role could involve client facing activities, and the successful applicant will be willing to travel to project sites across the UK.


  • Design and develop data warehousing solutions using the Microsoft BI stack
  • Develop and maintain documentation for deployed solutions
  • Work closely with data analysts to ensure solutions continue to meet their needs and that data is quality assured and accurate
  • Provide technical support to data warehouses, data models, and ETL processes
  • Help develop and drive the technical capabilities within the Government Solutions team
  • Work with business and technical staff to resolve problems and respond to suggestions for improvements or enhancements
  • Assess, innovate and recommend new technologies or approaches to help deliver a higher quality solution
  • Assist in rectification of production outages and issues, including identification of root cause and design of fixes
  • Support other technical activities when requested
  • Support the development of BI strategy and governance processes

Skills & Experience

Must have

  • Demonstrable skills in database concepts, warehousing and data modelling techniques
  • Excellent understanding of the Microsoft BI Stack including SQL Server technologies (T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS) and Power BI
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries and stored procedures
  • History of delivering business intelligence and data analytics solutions
  • Experience of delivering Microsoft Azure-based projects
  • Self-motivation and ability to work without intense supervision
  • Good data analysis skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with remote teams from a variety of backgrounds and with differing skillsets
  • A desire to learn new skills, keep aware of market trends and recommend / adopt new technologies
  • Pride in their work, and sense of accountability for deliverables


  • Experience of delivering Big Data solutions including Data Lakes
  • Experience of Python / R in Machine Learning would be useful
  • Experience delivering within Agile teams
  • Experience working with streaming data e.g IoT

Security Clearance:

The role holder will either have or be eligible for a range of UK government security clearances including BPSS, SC and NPPV2/3
