Join a winning team! SAIC’s National Security Customer Group is looking for a Payload Electrical Systems Engineer to provide systems engineering and technical advisory (SETA) services to a customer within the Intelligence Community (IC) in Chantilly, VA. 

This customer is responsible for designing, building, and operating national security-related systems based in space, in the air, and on the ground. Energetic individuals with a strong desire to expand their knowledge will have an opportunity to aid in maturing and developing space-based payload technology from applied research into qualified capabilities for insertion into the next generation systems. The successful applicant will work to provide acquisition support, technical evaluations and programmatic advice to a wide range of complex and technically challenging payload instrument acquisitions.

Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Work as a Systems Engineer as part of a world-class Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) team:
·       Provide technical insight to sensor developments
·       Research state-of-the-art component technologies and sensor concepts/capabilities for future development
·       Evaluate concept designs and system integration strategies
·       Review system level requirements and coordinate proper decomposition to lower level requirements
·       Review program for risk areas and recommend mitigation approaches
·       Conduct system analyses to validate vendor analyses and support government decision making
·       Review development contractor’s documents and procedures, requirements flowdown, verification methodologies, calibration plans, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and test plans to ensure program success
·       Coordinate technical evaluations of developer Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), including Basis of Estimate (BoE) evaluations and recommendations.
·       Collaborate with SETA team members, development contractors, and customer forums


  • Active TS/SCI w/Poly

·    Degree(s) in electrical engineering or related field. BS and 10 years of experience; Master’s and 8 years of experience; PhD and 6 years of experience

·    At least 6 years of combined experience working in digital design, microelectronics design, semiconductor device fabrication and/or foundry operations, radiation-hardened electronics, Read-Out Integrated Circuits (ROIC), radio frequency electronics, electro-optical electronics, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), defense electronics industrial base or related areas

·    Experience in preparing, coordinating, and presenting briefings

·    Experience in systems engineering principles and payload or bus subsystem design, integration and test requirements

·    Experience in concept development, trade studies and requirements decomposition for innovative payload or bus subsystems

·    Strong written and verbal communication skills

·    Proficient using MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), MS Outlook

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Electro-Optic (EO) systems
  • Knowledge of radar systems
  • Experience with sensor development
  • Knowledge of government acquisition processes
  • Knowledge of space and satellite systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the DoD organizational structure and budgeting process, IC-DoD inter-office coordination, and communication protocols
