Senior Systems Engineer

Performs a variety of engineering work in the development of an operable system capable of meeting requirements within imposed constraints including mass, cost and schedule. Designs and/or analyzes subsystem interfaces to ensure that subsystems are integrated and work together to form a viable complete system. Performs functional analysis of a system to ensure it meets performance criteria and mission constraints and to feed the analysis results back to the subsystem development teams. Usually is an engineering generalist with knowledge in several different engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical and aerospace. Performs or directs the performance of complex engineering assignments involved in the research, design, and development of an overall project comprising a number of equipment systems. Establishes project requirements based upon study and analysis of operational objectives and relationship with associated projects/programs. Originates engineering plans, ideas, schemes and techniques, as may be required to direct the efforts of assigned personnel to achieve desired results and objectives. Maintains liaison with other engineering and scientific organizations to keep abreast of developments in allied fields or programs, and coordinates group activities with those of other engineering groups. Evaluates engineering progress, developments and findings, to assure technical adequacy to meet operational demands and conformance with established standards and practices. Plans, programs and directs the activities of lower level engineering personnel to assure maximum coordination of effort within the group. Interacts with senior management and senior customer representatives; may lead a cross-functional team. Performs all other duties as assigned. BS degree in engineering or applied science with at least 8 years of related experience. In lieu of formal education, 12 years of directly related work experience. Specific contract requirements regarding education and experience will prevail.

KBR is currently recruiting for a Senior System Engineer to join our team supporting the E-2 Hawkeye project. This position is primarily responsible for functional and physical architecture development.

Job Description:

  • Systems engineering – supports requirements management team as needed to refine, document or develop requirements.
  • Assists in the definition and architecture of moderately complex software.
  • Works effectively on several phases of systems/software analysis with little direction, but may require some instruction and guidance for other aspects.
  • Provides functional and empirical analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of hardware and software systems.
  • Translates requirements into systems, hardware, and software architectural elements.
  • Participates in the development of test strategies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Systems or Computer Science. Master's Degree in Systems Engineering or INCOSE Systems Engineering certification may be used in lieu of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Information Systems or Computer Science.
  • A minimum of eight to twelve years of related work experience.
  • Focus in systems engineering.
  • Position requires demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, effective decision-making, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Creative problem solver to devise solutions given provided constraints.
  • Experience with the development of software intensive system architectures.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of information systems to meet functional and non-functional requirements.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Active Security Clearance Desired.
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Certification.
  • Experience with military aircraft maintenance processes and practices.
