Job Summary

The Program and Project Management (PPM) Group of AECOM is actively seeking a pragmatic, highly talented and experienced Claims Specialist reporting to the Project Controls Manager for immediate employment in the office located in Markham, ON.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of commercial management of projects

  • Reviewing and analyzing of tender and contract documents;

  • Knowledge of schedule delay analysis

  • Claims avoidance i.e. identification of potential claims, intake, evaluation, strategy, documentation, monitoring, mitigation, resolution, and litigation support

  • Interfacing with and advising AECOM and or Client project management team regarding claims prevention, defense, preservation, and/or resolution

  • Drafting correspondence and documents to support AECOM or clients claims position with respect to claims asserted either by the contractor or AECOM (or client)

  • Assisting with managing AECOM (or client) claims consultant contracts and using them as source documents to deal with escalated issues, including cost and schedule analysis, in depth review of cost items, and preparation for mediation or court proceedings

  • Drafting task orders for AECOM’s claims consultants’ contracts

  • Interfacing with appropriate experts to assist with complex and/or technical issues, including schedule and program delays, economic damages, time impact; interfacing with Corporation Counsel and/or outside legal counsel on issues/claims analysis; overseeing/managing claims submitted to alternative dispute resolution proceedings (i.e., mediation, dispute review board)

  • Assisting the Contracting Officer with requests for a final written determination; and providing litigation support

  • Ability to interrogate, prepare and defend contractual claims ranging from single issue disputes, valuation and payment disputes through to complex time and quantum disputes.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have at a minimum: a Bachelors Degree + 6 years of relevant experience. If a candidate does not have this, a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business Accounting, or Finance (or equivalent) preferred

  • Several years of experience in claim management and schedule delay analysis

  • Proficient skills in managing changes

  • Working knowledge of industry standard tools such as Primavera P6, and MS Office software (MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point), etc

  • Knowledge and experience in project contract administration for various types of contracts (e.g., firm-fixed-price, fixed-price with economic price adjustment, fixed-price incentive, cost reimbursement, cost sharing, cost-plus-incentive-fee, cost-plus-award-fee, cost-plus-fixed-fee, and time and material), change control, and document control on projects with high degrees of complexity and multiple interfaces, ideally design, construction, and engineering projects is desired

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are required to prepare specialized program reports and presentations for management.

  • PQS accreditation of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and/or MRICS accreditation of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors

  • PMP certification is desired
