Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Carpenter to join our Calgary Project team to be based in Victoria, British Columbia. This is a temporary position on Monday to Friday shift rotation. No LOA/Travel allowance provided.

Carpenters construct, renovate, erect and repair buildings and other structures made of wood, wood substitutes, steel and other materials. In commercial or industrial jobs, they build concrete forms, scaffolding, bridges, trestles, tunnels, shelters, towers and other structures. In maintenance jobs, they repair and remodel existing structures of all kinds. Some carpenters specialize in one type of work such as framing, bench work or finishing work.


  • Rough carpentry and forming for concrete slabs and curbs.

  • Assemble scaffold systems.

  • Mix concrete, transport and place concrete; work with concrete finishing, curing and toppings. Understand concrete joints and reinforcement, pre-stressed, precast and tilt-up construction and erection procedures.

  • Construct concrete wall and column formwork used in commercial/industrial construction.

  • Construct suspended slab formwork, and concrete stair formwork.

  • Install interior metal fabricated products; install commercial doors and windows.

  • Understand types of commercial exteriors and the layout and construction of arch support templates used for masonry exteriors.

  • Install fire and sound rated assemblies, thermal insulations and sealants.

  • Install fasteners and anchors used in commercial construction.

  • Develop orthographic and pictorial drawings and interpret commercial drawings.

  • Develop material takeoffs for commercial concrete formwork and concrete volume requirements of various components of a commercial building.

  • Design dimensions and material requirements for concrete stairs.

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.


Minimum Requirements

  • Current Registered Trade Apprentice.

  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training Systems) or PST (Petroleum Safety Training).

  • First Aid – Standard Level C.

  • Complete Shell Contractor online training.

Preferred Qualifications

Journeyman Carpenter is preferred.

May include some or all dependent on site:

  • Bobcat operator training.

  • H2S Alive.

  • CSE (Confined Space Entry).

  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement).

  • AWP (Aerial Work Platform).
