Diego Garcia: Assistant Fire Chief/ Fire Prevention

ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF/FIRE PREVENTION

Direct the day to day operations of the fire prevention, inspection, and investigation programs to ensure that the applicable fire codes are enforced for the protection of property and the public. As directed by the Fire Chief, prepare and plan that portion of the Fire Department’s annual budget related to fire prevention, inspection, and investigation. Supervise the fire extinguisher maintenance technician and fire inspectors to ensure inspections of all buildings and premises are incompliance with applicable codes. Supervise and conduct investigations of fires to determine the cause, origin. Assure written reports and summaries of findings for inspections and investigations are accomplished in final format. Prepare pre-fire plans for all major structures or occupancies where large property loss or loss of life could occur. Maintain knowledge of applicable fire codes and regulation. Supervise the inspection and issuing of hot works permits, as required, to assure compliance with codes and standards. Supervise and conduct the inspection of buildings for fire and life safety requirements. Review all facility designs to ensure fire protection features are incorporated IAW applicable codes and criteria. Assure that current, accurate, and thorough records are maintained for all buildings and all fire prevention activities. Maintain excellent public relations by using appropriate judgment, communicating courteously where deficiencies or violations exist, and assist others by educating them on how they can come into compliance with codes. Accomplish all required reports IAW contract requirements. Perform any of the job functions of any positions of a lower classification as required or directed by the fire chief.

BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Must speak, read, and understand the English language fluently.

Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health at all times; fit for duty.

Must hold country of residence driver’s license; and maintain current at all times.

Must have experience with computers and be proficient with Microsoft Office products

Subject to random drug testing

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING

Must complete NFPA 101 Life Safety Course.

DoD Approved American Heart Association CPR/AED for the Health Care Providers

DoD Approved Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

DoD/IFSAC/ProBoard (HazMat Awareness and Operations)

DoD/IFSAC/ProBoard (Fire Officer II)

DoD/IFSAC/ProBoard (Fire Instructor I, II) Fire Instructor III Recommended

DoD/IFSAC/ProBoard (Fire Inspector III)

EDUCATION:

Must be a High School graduate

College Degree is desirable

EXPERIENCE:

Must have three (3) years’ experience as Fire Inspector in a Fire Prevention Program of size and scope to that required on Diego Garcia.

Meet the minimum requirements IAW with DoD 6055.06M
