Job Summary

AECOM is seeking Dual ticketed Journeyman Machinist / Welder to join our Imperial Oil Kearl project team on site near Fort Mackay, Alberta. This is a full-time position on a 16/16, fly in fly out schedule.


Journeyman welder/ machinist is experienced with Line Boring to work, the successful candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Overhauling & maintaining various types of large open cut mining equipment;

  • Onsite line boring operations and surface milling procedures on all makes and models of open cut mining equipment;

  • Possess the ability to provide 'bore survey's and condition reports to 'bores and bushings

  • Workshop and field-based machining operations on a wide variety of earth moving components to tight tolerances (such as +/- .0005” in most cases);

Blueprint reading

  • I.D bore welding and bore reclamation; face build ups and machining to OEM specifications

  • Use of liquid nitrogen to assemble and fit various components;

  • Onsite maintenance including but not limited to: Caterpillar & Komatsu haul trucks, track dozers, graders, front end loaders , excavators and shovels The ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong commitment to safety;

  • Punctual

  • A keen eye for detail, presentation and craftsmanship in bucket rebuilds, repairs and refurbishments, dump bodies, blades, fabrication and other welding related duties on mining equipment

  • Significant post-trade experience with heavy earth moving equipment; including but not limited to: Caterpillar, Komatsu and Hitachi;

  • Strong analytical skills with a solution focus

  • Ability to work as part of a cohesive

Fully experienced with CLIMAX portable equipment

Able to fully set up and run a BORETECH welder is a must

Use of measuring tools in an accurate manner

Work under minimum supervision and meet deadlines

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Journeyman Certification in the Machinist trade.

  • Journeyman Certification in the CWB welding trade.

  • Able to use hands skillfully and quickly.

  • Excellent mechanical ability.

  • Able to estimate and measure sizes and lengths accurately.

  • Able to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required to handle items weighing up to 25 kilograms.

  • Valid CWB FCAW ticket.

  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS 09 or CSTS 2020) .

  • First Aid – Standard Level C.

  • Driver’s license and a clean driver's abstract required.
