The ITS/Traffic Department is actively seeking a creative, self-driven, highly talented ITS/Traffic Design Engineer for employment in the Atlanta, GA office.
As an ITS/Traffic Design Engineer in the ITS/Traffic Department, you will assist with a variety of work including traffic signal design and operations, ITS design/operations/communications/planning, traffic engineering studies, and safety studies. We regularly perform hands-on signal operations and communications design/integration work, so you'll have the opportunity to implement and fine-tune traffic signal timing plans, troubleshoot traffic signal equipment, and program and troubleshoot traffic signal and ITS communications network equipment over fiber optic, wireless, and cellular infrastructure. You'll also have the opportunity to develop and design cutting edge ITS projects that implement the latest technologies for improving surface street transportation.

Lead/manage the design of intersection and traffic signal design projects according to each agency’s standards and plan development processes.
Plan and design communication networks, physical infrastructure, logical operations, and light-duty data center facilities
Lead active management of signal timing systems with 50 to 100 signals. Provide quality reviews of reports and studies documenting active management activities.
Assess the performance of traffic signal and communications equipment (including switches and routers, CCTV, traffic detection units, and various other transportation management equipment) and prepare reports.
Effectively manage assigned projects/tasks and be in responsible charge of task activities and schedule
Manage client expectations to ensure the client is highly satisfied with the project(s), and coordinate directly with the DOT operations and ITS administrator clients to implement or manage the implementation of any of the above systems
Effectively manage project teams including engineers, planners, and technicians
Mentor/train junior staff
Develop new business by fostering existing and new client relationships
Periodic travel required within Georgia and neighboring states
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering related field
6 plus years of experience in traffic and/or ITS engineering, including traffic signal and ITS design
Experience in one or more of the following: Synchro/SimTraffic, MaxTime/MaxView, ACTRA/TACTICS, SEPAC, MicroStation, MS Visio
Valid driver's license required
Professional Engineering (PE) license in Georgia or ability to acquire within 6 months
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good time management skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail
Traffic signal timing development and implementation
Traffic signal and ITS construction inspection and administration
