The Talent Development team aspires to accelerate the business, empower employees and focus on the future through technology. We are currently seeking an experienced learning and development professional to join our team. Based in Chicago at the historical Merchandise Mart or our downtown Omaha location, this individual contributor will consult and provide instructional design expertise to address critical skill gaps across corporate functions.
Position Summary
This position is critical in designing learning solutions that support strategic business objectives. In addition to collaborating with stakeholders to identify learning solutions that are engaging, practical, and business-driven, this role has ownership for one or more enterprise-wide programs. The ability to pivot and adapt to changing business needs will be critical to success. Day to day responsibilities vary and will be a blend of stakeholder management, content development, facilitation and project management. You will use strong critical thinking and reasoning skills to assist in identifying appropriate learning solutions, create an effective learning environment and build strong partnerships across the organization. You’ll have the opportunity to own substantial, highly visible, learning programs with enterprise-wide impact. This role is key in creating positive learning experiences and helping your colleagues develop new capabilities to drive business results. You’ll help to foster an environment in which team members will on-board successfully and thrive in their roles.
Position Responsibilities
Design, develop and implement blended learning and development solutions (e.g., eLearning, virtual, classroom, etc.) with a significant organizational impact.
Expert use of professional instructional design tools and technologies to create compelling learning experiences that offer scalability.
Participate and execute on all phases of the content design framework, including needs analysis, designing, developing, implementing, evaluating and editing.
Lead large scale projects, including planning, managing and executing on project plans.
Create, facilitate, and manage complex learning programs, such as Foundations of Leadership, Manager Basics, and Orientation and Onboarding, both in-person and virtually.
Synthesize data and apply design expertise to present ideas to stakeholders and senior leaders.
Develop collaborative relationships across the organization and provide consultation to a wide range of business partners.
Provide recommendations to build, buy or curate learning solutions. Partner and manage suppliers when necessary.
Stay on top of talent development industry trends and help your team incorporate new methods as appropriate.
Coordinate training events which may include reserving rooms, managing enrollment, securing supplies and equipment, course facilitation and preparing and tearing down training space.

Ability to travel up to 20% of the time with the possibility of international travel.
Oversee existing vendor relationships and seek to expand these relationships in service of the best delivery of our leadership development strategy.
Facilitate virtual and/or classroom learning (new manager development program, first-time manager program, and other mid- to senior-level leadership development curriculum). Draw upon a wide variety of techniques to ensure learner engagement, knowledge transfer, and skill development in an efficient and outcome-based learning experience.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Adult Learning, Organization Development, Business or related degree required.
Minimum five years of professional experience in Talent Management, Human Resources, Organizational Design and/or Learning & Development.
Minimum of 3 years experience developing cultural leadership through a combination of coaching, development, and on-the-job experiences.
Experience designing and developing learning plans, content and curricula, including determining appropriate scope.
Experience applying learning theory to business environment/practices using a blend approach and engaging learners.
Experience with adult learning principles and talent development methods.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects that are cross-functional and complex, including influencing and getting things done through others.
Experience developing strong partnerships with stakeholders at varying levels of the organization.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Design virtual instructor-led training (VILT) learning environment using a mix of media and technologies platforms (e.g. Workday Learning) to deliver culture, management, and/or leadership knowledge and skills to a globally disperse audience.
Preferred (but not required)
Master’s degree in Adult Learning, Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, Organization Development, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Business (with focus on leadership or development) or related discipline.
HBDI certification.
Crucial Accountability (or other VitalSmarts certification).
Proficiency in instructional design tools such as, Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia and the Adobe Creative Suite.
